When planning an outdoor May wedding (especially here in Ohio), it's hard to say what kind of weather you're going to get. Sometimes you get rained out, sometimes it's blazing hot. Every once in awhile, you really luck out and everything comes together just perfectly.
Amanda + Nick's wedding just happened to be one of those perfect outdoor wedding days.
The ceremony location was in a stand of trees at the top of a hill with a great view of the surrounding area. There were a couple clouds that day (just enough to keep it from warming up too much), but plenty of sunshine as well. It was beautiful!
One of the my favorite details of the day was Amanda's incredible 14-foot veil! And of course, when you have a long veil, you have to take some awesome wind-blown veil photos :-)

]]>CJ and I met last year when he was the groomsmen at another awesome couple's wedding (thanks Nathan + Christy!). Since we both enjoy nerdy things including gaming, movies, photography and putting the Titanic song on random movie scenes, we immediately hit it off.
So, when CJ contacted me last month to photograph his proposal, I knew it was going to be good. And I was SO right!
CJ did such an incredible job planning this proposal, and keeping everything secret from Megan. He chose a gorgeous location, and everything just turned out perfect!
Congrats CJ and Megan! You guys are the bomb :-)
Note: a special thanks to my amazing wife Ashley for being an awesome second photographer from the other side of the creek!

]]>Managua, Nicaragua holds a special place in my heart, so it was pretty great to spend some time with Wendy + Mario while I was in town for another project.
We only had about 15 minutes together, and the sun had already set, but these guys were ready to go! Can't believe how many great images we got despite our short time together.

Together we explored Clifton Gorge, capturing their love for adventure, fun and each other! They even stayed out after dark and put up with letting me play around with some different lights to capture uniquely lit photos. I look forward to sharing their wedding day with this fun couple!

Da Som and her friend Cindy were my very first scheduled senior portrait sessions for my time in Nica! Shooting in a new place, with people you've never seen before, in a climate that you're not accustomed to in the month of February can all be pretty challenging, but thankfully Da Som and Cindy helped me get off to a great start :-)

So Karina is one of several students that I actually already knew before this most recent trip. When a mission team from my church went a couple of years ago, Karina was one of several translators that served alongside us. So I already knew that she was pretty cool!
What I DIDN'T know was that she would be so incredible in front of the camera! Great work, Karina! We made some awesome images :-)

Ah, Amy. She seemed so timid at first, but dang, she seriously turned into a rock star in the middle of our time together! Amy was up for just about anything I needed her to do, these images really show just how awesome she did in front of the camera.
Great work, Amy!

Shelby and Tyler's sunset beach wedding was just plain AWESOME. Sometimes the really small weddings where just the closest family members are there are the most fun and exciting!
Shelby and Tyler were so amazing in front of the lens, and they were pretty much up for anything! Great job guys.
So, check it out! Shelby and Tyler's big day!

]]>How do I even begin to tell you how awesome this Smoky Mountain wedding was? It was seriously such an honor for me and Ashley to be a part of Mark + Jennifer's big day!
Their wedding was small, with only a handful of family members invited. So we really felt like part of the family during the celebration. We had an incredible time getting to know everyone and celebrating the love of Mark and Jennifer.
So let's get to it! Here are some of my favorite images from our time with Mark + Jennifer and their family. Hold on to your hats: this is gonna be a long post :-)

]]>A few weeks ago, Josh was on the blog for senior portraits with his motorcycles. Well, Josh's good friend Nick decided he wanted the same treatment with his dirt bike as well!
Nick contacted a privately owned dirt bike track and was able to get permission for us to get a few shots there with his dirt bike! It was pretty awesome having a MASSIVE track all to ourselves for a couple of hours.
Nick also wanted to go to one of my favorites places to shoot: downtown Dayton!

So this was a new one for me.
I've never done a portrait session featuring motorcyles before. So when Josh told me that he wanted his senior portrait session to involve not just 1, but 2 motorcycles, I was pumped.
Was it cold on a motorcycle in November? You bet! But I think you'll agree, Josh... it was totally worth it.

OK, so I've known Maddie for several years now, and I even shot her brother's senior portraits as well a few years ago, but I had NO CLUE that she would be such a natural in front of the camera! Seriously, this was one of my most fun sessions of all time, and I'm pretty sure Maddie was having just as much fun as I was!

I'm proud to be a part of a group of local photographers here in Dayton, OH called the Circle. Every once in awhile, we get together and do some fun stuff!
This past week we hung out in a creepy parking lot after dark and did light painting (i.e. waving a bunch of light-emitting devices around in front of the camera). Check out the images below!
Also, make sure you check out my friend's photography websites (links at the bottom of the page).
(I call this first one "The Time Traveler")

So the new studio is almost literally RIGHT next to the airport, which makes it incredibly convenient for seeing some parts of the Dayton Air Show without having to pay for a ticket :-)
We are also very close to the path of the Air Show Parade, which gave us some AWESOME seats for that as well!
So check out some of the shots I captured last night and today of the parade and the Blue Angels airplanes!

Alisha and Josh are really good friends of ours, and we have been missing them since they moved out of Ohio several years ago. Thankfully they stopped by for a visit a few weeks ago, and we were able to go out and do some 5-year anniversary portraits!
It's always interesting shooting pictures of people who are ALSO creative professionals (Alisha is a photographer and Josh is a videographer), but these two were so much fun and awesome to work with. Looking forward to the next time you guys are in town!

Joshua is a pretty unique guy, and loves to rock his OWN sense of style! I love it when my subjects know who they are and aren't afraid to show their personality off!

I had the privilege of working with David Kaiser on a promotional video for Western Avenue Ministries highlighting the renovation of a building they recently acquired - The Viking Lodge.
What an awesome building! As a photographer, I get giddy when I see really cool locations, and the Viking Lodge certainly didn't disappoint! What a unique space, dilapidated though it may be. There is definitely some great potential left in this building, and I look forward to seeing what David and the WAM team do with it!

It's been so exciting to watch Courtney grow over the past few years. I've had the privilege of watching her turn into an amazing young lady that is going to do awesome things with her life! It's been very cool to see how God is using her already to change lives!
Courtney is such a fun person with a magnetic personality, so of course, that made for some great photos. We had an exciting time doing her photos with an entourage of her friends and family joining us for the excitement! Though it was a little cold out, Courtney was a trooper and hung in there to capture some gorgeous images!

Jeremy is a guy I've had the privilege of getting to know more and more over the past several years as he's moved through the student ministry at my church. Seeing him develop into the man and leader he is today has been an awesome experience.
So naturally, when he asked me to do his senior portraits, I was pumped! Portrait sessions with guys are always a bit different, because let's be honest, most of us guys don't really enjoy having our picture taken as much as the ladies do. Jeremy, however, was a true stud. Great smiles, great interaction and great conversation!
Thanks Jeremy, for letting me be a part of your senior year!

Alyssa is absolutely nuts about her horse, Breezy! When I suggested doing some portraits with her horse, she got super pumped.
And I can't get over how well-behaved Breezy was. She let Alyssa ride bareback, sit backwards on her rump and lead her all over the place and didn't fuss a bit! She didn't even throw a fit when I got out the flash and started lighting her up. Seriously, what a great horse!
Enjoy the photos!

I've known Amanda for several years now, and I shot her sister's senior portraits last year. What a fun family!
We had an absolute blast during our shoot. First, we walked around downtown Troy near the square and got a few shots there. Her dad works at the courthouse, so of course we had to get a few shots there.
Then we went to downtown Dayton and things got really interesting. I always love shooting in Dayton. The juxtaposition of a beautiful model and urban decay just fascinates me. We got some pretty sweet shots.

When Sara and Josh first approached me about their wedding, one of the first things they shared was that the whole thing - ceremony and reception - was going to be inside the Krohn Conservatory, a greenhouse in Cincinnati. I gotta say, they picked an awesome venue! The gorgeous plants and flowers really created an amazing ambiance during their special day. And don't even get me started on the bridge and the waterfall! What a great place for the ceremony.
However, I will say that it got DARK in there when the sun went down. I was very grateful for the time I've spent getting proficient with the flash in recent months.
So check out the pics, and the next time you're in Cincy, check out Krohn Conservatory!

You can tell from his decision to include an acoustic guitar in his senior pics (obviously), but I also know this first-hand because I've seen him play in concert several times with his band The Broken Lights. You may have heard of them, because they've gotten pretty big in the Dayton scene. That's quite an accomplishment for a high school senior!
